Despite the tragedy of Parvana’s mother’s death and the bombing of the school, I finished this book feeling hopeful and satisfied knowing that Parvana’s comment “They won.” (177) couldn’t be farther from the truth. To me, the following statement is enough for me to be satisfied.
It also makes me want to do more research into what I can do as an incredibly fortunate Canadian woman who has grown up in a safe home, with not only a primary school education but the opportunity to attend post-secondary. How can I use my position as a woman and as a teacher to spread the message of those less fortunate around the world? How can I spread HOPE?
